Easby Abbey

As I'm sure some of you know, I have a huge fondness of abbey ruins (Side note: in our new house I now get to walk past Kirkstall Abbey every day to and from work - I love it!) so I'm sure you're not surprised to see that whilst we were on a little weekend away near Richmond that we ended up at Easby Abbey and I took A LOT of photos haha.

Isn't it lovely and the walk to the abbey from Richmond was really enjoyable too! A great day out.

Wroxall Abbey Estate

As part of the away day where I work, we went to Wroxall Abbey Estate. It was a pretty long journey there and back in a mini van but I can't really complain because I finally read Jill Bolte Taylors 'Stroke of Insight' which I've been wanting to read for years and it was amazing - I highly recommend it and her TED talk if you have 20 minutes. (Side note: I also love this song about the brain featuring Jill - is that too nerdy a confession? Ha! Maybe a little... gotta love science)

Anyway, the photos... I didn't expect to take any of these photos. I thought perhaps I'd force one photo of something there in between the presentations, food and socialising... but instead it was a photographers dream. Behind the lovely hotel building and the abbey ruin was a run down farm and I don't think I've ever taken this many photos so fast ever - I was very annoyed with myself for not bringing another film with me in fact - though in hindsight thats probably a good thing as I would have probably taken a whole other roll of film haha and this is one full blog post as it is.

Oh my gosh the details, the textures, the hazy light... I love these and I'm so very excited to share them with you too. Hopefully you see what I see.

Creake Abbey Part II

One thing we didn't spot whilst having our photos taken at Creake Abbey was the little shrine at the back of the ruin. I wouldn't have spotted it at all if my parents hadn't pointed it out on our second visit - but once you did start to see all the coins that we left in various places on the walls and ledges, you started to see them everywhere.

Creake Abbey Part I

First, I have a new template on my blog - hurrah! I get bored fairly quickly of layouts I've found and it took me all of last week to realise that was why I didn't really feel like blogging at the moment - but now things are a bit cleaner and simpler I'm glad to be back. What do you think?

I'm excited to be sharing photos from Creake Abbey here today - we had some of our wedding photos taken here in September (you can see one here, I love it) and we went back again to visit with friends and family the week after the wedding as well and of course I took my cameras with me. 

The abbey isn't that big - especially compared to Kirkstall Abbey near us and definitely compared to Fountains Abbey which is huge but its charming and delightful and I'm glad I got a chance to capture that myself on film. I'm always going to be extra fond of it after having our photos taken there I think.

I'm really pleased with the results from my second roll of film taken with my new to me Zenit E as well - I think I'll be taking it out with some black and white film again very soon.
