2018 in Videos

Hello and happy new year!! I’m excited to be back to regular blogging - I’m thinking 2 posts a week - thats manageable isn’t it! So here we go with my first one of 2019.

Although I didn’t really blog that much last year and I used my personal instagram more than my film photography one (you’re following both right?) I have been using the 1 Second Everyday app and documenting the year that way.

And not only have I been using it for myself - but I’ve been making one for everyday that we’ve had with our new kittens too. Their video is my favourite haha! I did say I would put together a proper post introducing them and that is my plan - but for now - Pearl is the white/tabby one and Garnet is her black and white tuxedo cat brother. They have me totally around their little cat paws gahhhh.

I’ve really loved these projects and I definitely think I’ll be continuing for this year (2019!) as well. I share the monthly videos on Instagram - either at my personal account or for the account that I’ve made for the kittens (because I’m now that person ha!) so if you want to see them regularly, definitely follow me on Instagram!

2018: A Knight of Swords year

For the past six years I’ve chosen a word to help ‘guide’ me through the year ahead. 2017 and 2018 however were a little different in that I chose a Tarot card too! Boy - did I underestimate the importance of that decision ha.

My word for the year (which I neglected to share here anywhere online oops) was FOCUS. I knew I had a lot of work to do with my Lighting Diploma and at work, and I also thought that it would be perfect for my photography too - my intentions were to knuckle down, focus on my goals and get to where I wanted to be in a sensible fashion.

AND then, on this day last year - I pulled the Knight of Swords as my Tarot card for the year. He’s still sat in my purse now. I felt a little frustrated pulling a Knight as the court cards are not my most favoured and I often struggle with their application - my 2017 card was the major ‘Strength’ card and I understood that and its application (and necessity frankly) very well. I was pleased to see a sword though - the suit of thoughts - it was indeed going to be a year of thinking and of trying my best to focus them.

What I underestimated though, was the knight himself. Knights are people of action, they charge, they fight, they defend and they honour. They move forward towards their goals and they do it with a straightforward intent. The knight of swords especially knows exactly the way they want to move forward - their thinking is already done and they have decided on a course of action which they are implementing with their full force and power.

And boy did I move forward at pace in 2018 - I charged into a engineering degree which I’m still sure could possibly be a huge mistake ha, we threw ourselves into raising two little kittens in the Summer (I’ll share more about those soon I promise) and I’ve thrown myself into the deep end with work and life in general. 2018 flew by but I think that perhaps rather than the time itself moving faster, it was me barreling through it, harnessing the Knight of Swords and trying my best to hold on for life.

Do you have a word for the year? How did your word for 2018 go for you? I did indeed focus, I had to, but perhaps not on the things that I initially thought I would haha.

Check in soon for my word and card for 2019 - I’m hoping the tarot card I pull later this evening is going to be a little less intense (though now I’ve said that… I’ve probably jinxed it!) and a little more aligned with the word I’ve chosen haha.

Hello! Remember me?

Hey kids, sorry for the radio silence, this year has been a bit crazy - pretty much from May onward I feel like I’ve been taking steps in so many directions that I’ve just ended up running in circles haha. Still we’ve made to the end of the year - and in the last couple of weeks I’ve had to decide what I really want to do with this space.

I knew I didn’t want it to disappear, I feel like this blog is the best thing to come out of the 6 years I spent at a job that didn’t take me anywhere - yet I wasn’t sharing, wasn’t taking photos. Then Flickr decided to be extra and charge for having over 1,000 photos on there. Ouch, I have 8,000! So I then had to decide what to do about that - and as Flickr is linked quite a lot with my earlier blog posts, I decided that I better keep both.

And keeping both costs money, so if I’m keeping both - I better actually use them. And here we are… here I am! Hi! I’m sure you haven’t missed me, but I’ve missed you.

I also decided that if I am sharing here, I’m going to share whatever I want. And that at the moment includes tarot cards, knitting, crochet (those are all over my Pinterest anywho), anxiety, food intolerances, grief, engineering (get me!) and of course, our favourite subject - film photography. There will still be photos once get I get myself organised don’t worry.

Over all though guys, I want there to be love. A love of taking photos, a love of doing something that is just for you, a love of sharing and (re)connecting to the world, a love of all the good things and a love of all the bad things.

My instagram reads: ~ love ~ create ~ inspire ~ smile ~ and I think perhaps its time to get back to all those things and remember why I loved blogging in the first.

(And if after a year of paying for Flickr, I haven’t blogged and its just not worth the investment, then we’ll see… but positive thinking right?!)

I never get bored of yellow. I must have loads of photos like this but I still take them, they make me happy. Hurray yellow!
