#BEDM - Travel dreams

64

{Visiting Paris and Krakow}

The tough part about writing this list is that there aren't many places that I don't want to go.  I haven't really travelled that much, the lists of countries I've been too are mostly in Europe (France, Belgium, Poland) so its hard to really know where to start with a list of dreams because really I want to see and photograph it all. There are a few places that I would really love to visit though.

1. The Grand Canyon - Partly for the photos but mostly just to see it - can you imagine something so vast and beautiful? I can't, not really, I want to go and soak it all in.

2. Cornwall/Devon/Dorset, England - It's funny how one of the top places that I want to go is in the same country that I live in but I've actually never been to that part of England before - I've been around most other places in England and I've been to Scotland, Wales and Ireland but never to the South West of England - I'm hoping that when I finally learn to drive we'll road trip it down there and explore for a while.

3. Tokyo, Japan - Mainly for the Studio Ghibli Museum, but Tokyo has been on my list for a while now.

4. Italy - anywhere in Italy to be honest, I couldn't decide one place, I'd almost want to take a month off and go see everything (or at least as much as I could in that month) and mostly I want to go to eat the food, seriously, fresh gnocchi... I'm there.

5. Finland/Sweden/Norway - I've bunched these together because really, I just want to see the aurora - the northern lights.

6. Easter Island, South Pacific - With everything that's been going on lately - part of me wants to get to as remote a place as I can. I've always been fascinated with this area of the world too and the statues look pretty amazing - Imagine the photos of those.

#BEDM - Pets

I skipped a day yesterday, but it was the bank holiday and it was really, really sunny! So I spent the day outside which is time well spent I think.

Today's #BEDM post is about pets - and unfortunately, we don't have any... boo! I really want a puppy though and Thomas really wants a kitten, so eventually we'll get one. For now I'll just indulge myself in sharing photos of my parents dog Harry instead, who is practically mine when he wants something from me, haha.

Harry is a ruby coloured Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, he's stubborn, clever, loving, demanding, adorable and luckily he loves cuddles,  I can't wait to see him in about a months time. He's definitely making the wait to get my own puppy a bit more bearable...

Fit and Healthy

I never thought I'd be writing about this on here, it's not usually something I would share, but as we're here I might as well do it properly... so here's the list of things that I do to try and have a balanced and healthy lifestyle

1. Cut out most sugar and processed foods.

This is so hard, but its so worth doing... Thomas and I followed a pretty strict diet the first time we tried this and it worked really well. Major things we've cut out are: diet coke (ouch), white foods (bread, pasta etc), processed meats, ready meals, pre made sauces, most cereals and yoghurt (the sugar in these is unbelievable) and things like crisps, cakes and chocolate in our lunches.

Realistically, though a strict diet isn't 100% maintainable when you love chocolate, cake and eating in restaurants as much as I do, so rather than cutting out all sugary foods completely I...

2. Treat myself to one thing a day.

Whether its a cake, a chocolate bar, a pint of beer or even a sausage roll (oh pastry, you terrible temptress, why must you be so bad for us) I try and just have one of anything of these a day. I actually enjoy these things so much more now and I really look forward to choosing a treat each day - though I have been surprised by the number of times that chocolate has lost to other things (like picking a starter instead of a dessert, or a light fruit dessert instead of chocolate cake... who am I?!)

3. Eat lots of vegetables and drink lots of water.

I will admit that I find these really easy as vegetables are my favourite food ever (especially roasted, yum!) and I love water too.

4. Do an exercise I love, that makes me feel good and do it every day

I've tried lots of different things - running, step machines, aerobics... but the one thing I've always come back to is yoga and walking. Everyday I walk and every day I do at least 15 minutes of yoga and honestly, its the best feeling ever, even if I just do the one 15 minutes routine, I feel so much better for it. I think its important to love an exercise rather than making yourself do it - I never have to talk myself into yoga as I always want to do it, whilst running I have to build myself up for (even though I do enjoy running most of the time).

5. Find your balance for love - not hate.

One of the things I've realised with diets or exercise is that people hate their bodies - they want to get rid of the bits they hate - but hate is never a good motivation for anything, ever. And often, even if they do achieve their goal, there is still something else they hate, so they're never happy. Honestly, I'm just as guilty in doing this as anyone else and it's only within the last month that I've realised that I used to treat exercise and healthy eating as a punishment to myself rather than as a reward. Once I realised that, I started to make changes immediately.  I started to treat myself, rather than completely deny myself anything. I also started doing an exercise that I loved, and that has made such a  huge difference, both to my attitude and my results. All of a sudden my body is my temple because rather than forcing it to do things that made me unhappier, I'm treating it like the amazing thing that is is and not denying myself either.

I've slowly realised that if you really want to make a difference to find your balance and be healthy - then you have to do it for the right reasons. Do it because you love your body and because you love yourself, do it because you want to look as amazing as you are, not because you want to look better than someone else, or because you think you'd be happier if you were thinner. Do it because you deserve it, because you are amazing, and your body is equally so -  it houses you, it takes you from one place to the other, it keeps you safe, it nourishes you and it - and you - are capable of more than you can imagine.

Day in the Life...

So I'm still not really sure how to do this post... I've seen a few people on Twitter write about how their day is pretty dull, and honestly, mine are pretty dull too. However, one thing I do love about every day life is routine - I am a creature of habit and doing the same things every day definitely makes things more comfortable for me.

So here are some things that I do every week day that I love doing:

- Get up early and do a 15 minute yoga routine. (After a 5 minute snooze... I loooove the 5 min snooze.)

- Walking to work - this is my 10 minutes to myself - usually I listen to some music, and sometimes I snap some photos as well. I see the same people (and one gorgeous dog) everyday and I always wonder where they are if I don't see them.

- Emailing my friends and family - my besties email me at work pretty much everyday and usually my parents too, I love it.

- Writing my blog posts, uploading photos to Flickr, checking out Twitter, Society6 and Instagram. Perhaps I have an internet problem?

- Eating - haha I love food and although my lunch is usually the same thing (a veggie chilli wrap with hummus and veg snacks) making dinner in the evening with Thomas is one of my favourite parts of the day... we put some music on, talk about each others day and enjoy some time together.

- Take photos. I've been doing a 365 project, so I take at least one photo a day and I'm really glad about that.

- Enjoying our evenings - we usually either watch a film, catch up with TV (currently loving Nashville, Justified, The Good Wife and Game of Thrones!) or I'll do some crochet... relaxing evenings after a day at work are the best.

- Talking to my parents on the phone. I miss them.

However, there are some things I really don't enjoy about my day too:

- Brushing my teeth - I do it, of course, but I don't like it.

- Catching the bus... buses are the bane of my life. I could write more, but it would just be a rant, so I'll leave it at that.

- Scanning/printing/folding drawings at work - most of the time I enjoy my work, I like the CAD and design elements - but these three things I do not enjoy.

So there we go, a day in my life... Luckily the good definitely outweighs the bad.
