Reetsweet at the Corn Exchange

In October I spent the day with Zoe at the Reetsweet Autumn Fair in the Corn Exchange in Leeds. As we were there all day,
I took it as a opportunity to practice populating my photos and to try and document the lovely light and
atmosphere that the Reetsweet fairs have.

Tomorrow the Reetsweet Christmas Fair is being held at the Corn Exchange and I’m really looking forward to wandering around and
probably buying some christmas gifts too. If you live in Leeds I highly recommend a visit.

Also this weekend our christmas tree is going up and I am EXCITED. I love Christmas, woohoo!
Have a great weekend :)

Waiting for the Olympic Torch…

So it has been a few months since the Olympics and since the Olympic Torch came near our house (you can see my instagram photos of the torch here). I was a little anxious of taking photos of everyone around us whilst we waited, but I’m so glad that I did, I think these capture it pretty well.

Ladybird Likes in Leeds

In October my blog friend, the lovely Zoe, from Ladybird Likes came to visit and as well as helping her out with her stall at Reetsweet, we also went for a lovely little photo walk around Kirkstall Abbey.

I love meeting blog friends in person and Zoe was a joy to spend the weekend with, I’m so glad that she came to visit and Thomas and I both enjoyed showing her around Leeds and getting to know her better.

You can see Zoe’s beautiful film photos from the weekend here (with a cameo appearance of my hand) do check them out, I really love them as it was great watching Zoe take her photos and then seeing the final results.

Have a great weekend, I’m spending mine with my girls and I can’t wait already.

Forgotten Harry photos…

Before I kick off my Whitby photos (there are a lot, I love them so already) I knew that I had to share these photos of Harry first. I can’t believe that I completely forgot I had taken them but then these are from May…

I know this last one has everyones trainers in focus rather than Harry, but I still quite like it and his little annoyed face cracks me up. He really wanted to go for a walk and we were all sitting around having cups of tea haha. Also he gets fed up with me putting cameras in his face after a little bit so he does this. I love him.

p.s. If you haven’t seen Harry’s annoyed at me face before, there is another photo here that cracks me up just as much. Poor Harry…

So here I am.

I probably should do a post right..? Though I don’t really know what to write today, I just know I want to be here, so here I am and here are some photos. I’ve tried writing this post a number of times but it’s all been a bit too much and in the end I picked some of my recent favourite photos and went with those instead… sometimes I worry that I’m hiding behind my photos but they always seem to say so much more than I could ever write, so here I am. I think I’ve been here the whole time. Perhaps you can read them. Perhaps you can even hear me and what I’m trying to say. I like the idea that maybe you see more of me than I ever do through them.

Calm before the storm…

Though really, its more excitement than a bad storm…
On Friday my little sister is getting married, so I’m at home helping her sort things out and pestering the dog with my cameras, haha.

I’m so excited!!!

{Sometimes I get over excited about a photos potential and forget to let my Yashica Samurai focus properly, oops.}

Over the weekend I’ve been reading through the ‘Thing’s I’m afraid to tell you posts‘ and I’m feeling conflicted about it – in many ways, I’m so glad that people are being honest but at the same time I’m amazed that people really believe that other bloggers lifes are that perfect…
I don’t share my feelings often here, but it’s not because I’m afraid, or worried that you’ll judge me – I already judge myself too harshly and if I don’t share something here, its usually because I’m hiding it from myself rather than a larger audience. I know that I am my own worst enemy.

My photos today are technically bad – they are out of focus, you can’t make out what you are looking at and at first I was disappointed with them. But after looking at them again, I think that they are beautiful, they remind me to slow down, appreciate the moment, stop being so hard on myself to take the perfect photo and to just wait a few more seconds to let myself enjoy it, let the camera and light do its thing and then, when I’m ready, take the photo.

I think we all need this reminder sometimes – perfection, happiness, wealth and beauty are all relative – what works for me won’t work for you – and thats how blogging is too – read a blog because you love it but know (and remember) that behind every amazing photo there is always one (maybe more) that is out of focus too.

St Patrick’s Chapel, Heysham

Hello! Sorry for the blog silence, I’ve been sick.
I’m feeling much better now though and I finally developed my elusive film from February over the weekend too
so I finally have some colour photos to share, hurray!
(I’m not thrilled with the scans though, I’m going to take the negs to my usual place,
so these may be replaced when I do that…)

I’m so glad these photos turned out well, they are of St Patrick’s Chapel, Heysham – a ruined building which stands on the coastline of Heysham, next to the newer St Peter’s Church. It is a Grade I listed building and a Scheduled Ancient Monument believed to be dated from the 8th or 9th Century.

Just beneath the chapel was a peaceful little cove where we sat for a while taking it all in, I loved the colours of the shells and the sound of the waves.

Have a great weekend!!

p.s. I crack myself up with the Hey Girl and Up references, haha.

p.s.s. On another note, I finally ‘get’ Ryan Gosling, um, yummy! Seeing him in Crazy, Stupid, Love may have been a deciding factor, how cute is he with Emma Stone.

Hi Mum, Dad and Harry :)
No idea who the boys below are though and we actually didn’t see them after that either… weird. It’s ok though because I’m populating my photos!
Photo36_34aPhoto35_33aPhoto34_32a

I always like to take two (or more, haha) different cameras with me to new places as they capture things so differently, the Yashica Samurai can zoom so I could capture the birds in the distance as well as the delicate flowers, whilst the Diana Mini seems more suited to tones, light and atmosphere than details.

I do think they are both important to capture somewhere though – and also represent you and how you see things and sometimes one camera or film isn’t really enough to do that…

I’m so relieved that it is Friday, this week has been busy, a bit stressful and I’ve sulked about things beyond my control a fair bit… but as my good friends have told me – you can only worry about the things you can change… so this evening I’m going to go home, spend the evening with my love and have a nice bottle of wine and hopefully that will be a good start to a worry free weekend.
See you next week!

Update: Before I forget – Susannah Conway’s registration for the next Photo Meditations and Unravelling opens tomorrow, I can highly recommend the Photo Meditations and I have no doubt that her Unravelling course is just as amazing, so don’t miss out.

Grasmere Part 1

Of all the places that we visited over Mum’s birthday weekend, Grasmere was my favourite. It was quaint and lovely, exactly what you would expect from the Lake District, with gorgeous little cottages, stone walls and the most amazing gingerbread I’ve ever eaten.
(Oh how I looove gingerbread)

Photo23_21aPhoto26_24a Photo28_26Photo26_24Photo32_30 William Wordsworth grave Photo27_25

I actually didn’t realise that Grasmere was also the home of William Wordsworth until we got to the church and walked around to see the grave…which is funny as the main reason that the village is so popular is because of him, but honestly I think it would be just as popular anyway, it is such a delightful little place.

The Herdy Shop

Grasmere is also home to a Herdy shop, which I personally found more exciting – I love that little sheep face – though the photo isn’t that great, but I don’t care. I kind of wish I’d bought some of these now… and some mugs, maybe a tea towel… I want it all!

Lake Windermere Part 2

This post could really be named ‘houses on the lake…’ because really, thats mostly what I took photos of. I do love a great looking houses and I especially love the little boat houses along the water too.

Apparently, many industrialists in the 1800′s chose to build grand mansions and houses around Lake Windermere and many more amazing houses have been built since too, which has resulted in the area having some of the most expensive houses in the country…

Photo14_12aPhoto16_14aPhoto21_19Photo13_11aPhoto20_18Photo15_13Photo19_17The Roundhouse, Belle Isle

The last house, Belle Isle Roundhouse, is my favourite – it was on a private island in the middle of the lake for one, and its a circular house, how awesome is that?! I bet it looks stunning inside. The front of the house has amazing pillars inspired by Italian architecture, though you can’t see them too well here. Imagine having a little island as your back garden…

Lake Windermere Part 1

One of the (many) perfect things about the Barn that we got for Mum’s surprise weekend, was that it was a perfect distance from the Lake District. My parents spent a week in the Lakes a couple of years ago and we knew that they both loved it and wanted to take us there, so the first lake that we visited was Lake Windermere.
Photo19_17aPhoto22_20a
Lake Windermere is England largest lake at 10.5 miles long and it felt huge! It wasn’t very wide but it just seemed to go on and on, especially as we drove along it – I actually thought it was a different lake at one point but no – still the same huge lake.Photo17_15Photo20_18a

We decided to go on one of the tourist boats heading towards the south of the Lake and Harry loved absolutely loved it.

Photo10_8aPhoto05_3aPhoto18_16a

As well as the Lakes, the area is famous for its hills (or Fells) that surround the lakes and these were stunning in the distance and provided the perfect backdrop to the slightly choppy waters.

Photo15_13aPhoto08_6a

I can definitely understand now why the Lake District is such a popular holiday destination, you definitely get the feeling that you haven’t seen everything when you go there… I’m looking forward to perhaps going back one day to explore more.

Paris in film: Lomo X-Pro Part II

In my last post about this film, I said that I didn’t like it – and considering that I’ve been looking at these photos since September when we delevoped them, I can say that is still true. However I find myself in the same position with these photos as I was before… I love the composition and the content, but that green tint… ick.

I know I could Photoshop them and I might try on a few, but it seems silly to do that when I chose to use a cross-processed slide film, you expect colour shifts, I just didn’t expect to not like it lol.

Rock en Seine…

One of the reasons we chose to go to Paris over the August Bank holiday was due to the music festival Rock en Seine, held just outside Paris. (We also went to a music festival whilst we were in Krakow, we are well travelled music lovers! Barcelona next I believe… haha) Neither of us took many photos but I managed to get some with my yashica samuria with my first try of Lomography Xpro film.
Photo20_20Photo18_18aPhoto18_18Photo19_19Photo19_19a
I’m still undecided on this film, its very green, though some others from the two rolls I used did turn out quite well, so I guess this is a limited selection to judge it on.

I also took some photos with my Sardina too and I love the results, the wide lens is perfect for the setting…

Highlights from the festival include the Foo Fighters – Dave Grohl is amazing, the Artic Monkeys, Anna Calvi, Lykke Li and Austra, who I just love!

That first evening continued…

After finding the river and enjoying the amazing view, we decided to continue walking around the area on our side of the river before having dinner… we managed to find the Louvre, the Centre Pomidou and some other gems which I just loved.
Photo15_12bPhoto09_6bPhoto13_10bPhoto13_10aPhoto24_21bPhoto12_9bPhoto18_15aPhoto26_23aPhoto28_25b{can you see me? This one was taken by Thomas with his Sony H7}

We then went for our first French meal – we both had Steak Tartare which was delicious, like a really amazing pate and then desserts.
Thomas had rum baba and I had the nicest creme brulee I’ve ever tried. As you can see, I was very excited, I seriously love creme brulee.

I also love my yashica samurai, I took 50 photos that first night with a 24 film, you can see the rest that I haven’t shared in the films Flickr set here (3 posts on one film is enough lol)

p.s. It’s possible I may have taken too many photos in Paris…
I’m kidding (of course)
However, we could be here for a couple of months people… this is 1 film out of 12
I’m just saying.

Along the river…

My main aim on that first evening was to see the river Seine, I’m not sure why, but I really wanted to get to the river and look across the city – I wanted to see all the bridges and get our first view of the Eiffel Tower.

Photo18_15b{photo by Thomas with the Sony H7, my first with the tower!}

Photo20_17aPhoto20_17bPhoto19_16aPhoto19_16bPhoto22_19bPhoto21_18bPhoto22_19aPhoto21_18aPhoto23_20a

And boy, once we got there, it really did not disappoint – I felt so much better, like I truly believed we were in Paris and I could finally relax. The sun was shining, the evening was beautiful and we sat and watched the world and the river go by on a bench for a little while just soaking it all in.

Our first walk into Paris…

On our first day we spent most of the morning travelling and we finally arrived in our apartment at 4pm… and for our first adventure, we decided to take our first walk into Paris. Our apartment was near the canal (I can’t wait to share that later, it was perfect) so our walk into Paris consisted of following the Rue de St Martin into the center.

Paris is photogenic, everywhere in Paris is photogenic, these are only down one road… Thomas and I both had too much fun taking photos right from the beginning.

I’m so glad that we took these photos that evening though – we ended up walking this way a lot and after a while we didn’t even notice the things that we found so fascinating on that first walk.

Rollright Stones

During our week away in April we took a small detour through the beautiful English countryside (which I love more and more) to a place called The Rollright Stones.

It truly amazes me that I have never heard of these before as they are just as old as Stone Henge* and also as mysterious in their origins, it was truly amazing to look at these stones and know that they were so so much older than everything around them.

and I also took just the one photo with my diana mini… I love the colours that were captured so beautifully in the sunshine with the Yashica Samurai above but something about the soft tones of the Ilford black and white film just takes my breath away.

These photos were taken in the Gower Memorial just off the Canal. I’m particularly fond of these statues as the first time that I visited Stratford Upon Avon with my family we took lots of silly posing photos which is definitely one of my fondess memories from that little holiday.

Thank you to everyone who has joined the photo swap yesterday, I got 43 entries in the first day which is pretty amazing!!

Stratford Upon Avon. The home of Shakespeare

Stratford is most famous for its association with William Shakespeare and as well as seeing the house that Shakespeare was born in, we also saw the church that he was buried in. Quite cyclical I think.

I loved studying Shakespeare at school and college so it was great to visit Stratford and see it an educational point of view as well as a touristy one.

You can see all of the photos that I took in Stratford with this camera in this Flickr Set, there are quite a few I didn’t share on here.

Can you believe its Friday already?! This week has flown by!
Happy weekend!

p.s. I know this is so late, I suck. But the winner of the Hue and Hum print is Micaela, hurray! I’ll email you M!

Stratford Upon Avon Part 2

As well as having my Diana Mini with me for our week away, I also took the Yashica Samurai with me and I must admit, this camera is really growing on me. I love that it can pick up details that Lomography cameras can sometimes miss without losing the wonderful grain from the film or the quality of colour I’ve come to expect from analogue cameras.

{warning, lots of photos coming up, I couldn’t bring myself to remove any…}

These were taken around the same area as my last Stratford photos and I find it fascinating to see the difference between the photos, not just with the layout but in how I take them and what I focus on. These capture the atmosphere, the light and the town so well. My photos always make me want to go back. I love that.

Where to start…

Yesterday I got 148 photos developed, some from the past week and a couple from York with Adele and I have no idea where to start sharing them, I haven’t even put all of the last black and white diana mini film on Flickr yet…

I’m not complaining though, I am delighted!
I can’t believe I’ve taken so many photos already this year… YEAY!

Anyway, the lovely Elizabeth suggesting closing my eyes and picking one at random, so today’s post is going to be about doors and doorways… they seem to be my new fascination.

the perfect yellow door

{The perfect yellow door, Henley in Arden. Diana mini with Lomography Colour Negative ISO 400 film This is totally going in my shop btw, eventually…}

Church Door, Stratford

Cotswolds Door

I think I’m going to have to start using my yashica samurai more, its the perfect companion to a lomography camera as it has a great zoom feature (which I do miss sometimes) and you can take double the amount of photos per roll which is fun, especially as I love the square diana mini’s too much to use it as a half frame camera anymore…

p.s. Colour photos I still adore you, that yellow is unbelievably perfect!

Krakow – Around the Planty

Everytime I go to start a post about Krakow, it nearly starts with ‘my favourite thing about…’ but really, the whole city is my favourite at the moment – and the Planty – the ‘green circle’ park gardens that surrounded the old town is another feature of the city that I particularly adored. Especially as our apartment was literally across the road from it and we walked around at least one part of it everyday, hurray!

{photos taken with my new fave – the yashica samurai and my fuji instax mini, hurray}

In fact, I think every city needs a park to encompass it so I can walk around in Autumn and admire the beautiful leaves! (Yes, I mean you Leeds!)

In other news my parents are coming to visit this weekend – finally – so I am very excited!

I hope you all have a great weekend!

p.s. my lovely blog friend Eadaoin from City of Blackbirds featured me in her new Inspiration Secrets blog series this week – so if you’re wondering what mine are - have a look
(and say hi to Ead, I love her!)

Krakow – Architecture

Walking around Krakow was honestly one of my favourite pass times whilst we were there – there was always something new to notice and I was often walking around looking up at the buildings rather than where I should have been going…

Aren’t the buildings gorgeous? Even though some were run down, it just added to their character and to the feeling of the City.
I think I want to go back…
p.s You may have seen Anna’s post yesterday dedicated to my dearest blog friend Clara - who is having a charity sale selling amazing Rollei cameras(!) to raise money for the victims of the Merapi Eruptions in Indonesia.

Everytime I see any terrible news about Indonesia, Clara is the first person I think of and I know that Anna has loved ones she cares about and worries about too, so if you are interested in gaining a new camera and helping a great cause, please have a look.

Krakow – The Main Square

The first highlight of Krakow that we really explored was the main square in the Old Town.

It was such a pleasure walking around the square, taking in the atmosphere and enjoying the people watching – there was always something going on.

On the Broads…

Best day ever!

All photos taken with my new favourite Yashica Samurai, I love!

(though I dont know how to turn the date off which is frustrating…I’m not even sure the date is right on those…)

Let’s go fly a kite…

Have you ever seen a dog try to catch a kite?

Funniest thing I’ve ever seen.
It could have stayed doing that for hours if it hadn’t been called away…

Around Wells with a yashica camera…

I know I blog about Wells-Next-The-Sea and my yashica cameras alot, but I really do love them
(and I’m sure you do now too, haha!)
and together they create something quite lovely.

I seriously just want to take this camera out to play all the time now – I think it’s just become a contender to go to Poland with us…

Beach Hut Love!

One of my favourite parts about getting to go home (our other home… like Coraline, but not evil…) is going to the beach and visiting Thomas’s family beach hut!

Built by Thomas’s Grandpop the beach hut has been through all kinds of weather and luckily Thomas’s Granny had a picture to show us from around the time it was first built in 1979! (which I accidently brought back to Leeds – oops! Least I got to scan it though… sorry Granny!)

{this is a newer beach hut similar to the one towering above the little beach hut on the right picture}
Over the last 10 years the sand and the other beach huts have built up around the little beach hut but it still looks great and is perfect for a bacon, sausage and egg sandwich on the beach!
Happy Friday! Have a great weekend!
p.s. all the photos except the top were taken with our new yashica samurai - arent they lovely? I’m completely smitten with that camera!
