Whitby and sunshine…

Oh gosh I miss the sunshine… the only light I see now is my ten minute walk to work and out of my window… but I’ll be honest, a car park does not make for inspiring viewing all day. Even when occasionally a crow gets in a fight with a magpie (its rare and the crow always wins)

As well as looking around Whitby on our week away, we also explored the neighbouring bays, including the fishing harbour village of Staithes which I became quite taken with. A lot of the area around Whitby seems to be frozen in time, I can imagine that Staithes in particular hasn’t changed all that much in the past 100 or so years.

God I loved this place, it was so perfect for taking photos, there was just so much to see. Even with as many photos as I took I’m not sure I got everything. I can’t get over how quaint it was, the lovely colour of the bricks, the bunting… I loved it.

Have a great weekend, amazingly we’re going out to take more photos together (in an attempt to catch up with my 12 for 2012 project). I’m already looking forward to it :)

Dog’s in Whitby…

Everytime I looked through my photos trying to decide which photos to share next, I kept coming back to these four photos and looking at them it was pretty obvious the connection between them.

Whitby, Sept 2012

I wasn’t really sure where to start with these photos, so I decided to pick a camera and a film and then choose some of my favourites from that, and I think these photos are a pretty good way to kick it all off.

I still can’t believe how pretty Whitby was and how lucky we got with the sunshine, its no surprise that I took as many photos as I did really, I would have been crazy not to… right? I’m telling myself right.

Leeds Corn Exchange, in film…

I recently shared some instagram photos of the Corn Exchange in Leeds and mentioned that it was a shame I didn’t take a film camera to capture the beautiful light…
so I went back with my LC-A and I’m so glad that I did.

So here I am.

I probably should do a post right..? Though I don’t really know what to write today, I just know I want to be here, so here I am and here are some photos. I’ve tried writing this post a number of times but it’s all been a bit too much and in the end I picked some of my recent favourite photos and went with those instead… sometimes I worry that I’m hiding behind my photos but they always seem to say so much more than I could ever write, so here I am. I think I’ve been here the whole time. Perhaps you can read them. Perhaps you can even hear me and what I’m trying to say. I like the idea that maybe you see more of me than I ever do through them.

Bunting!!

I guess that now is as good a time as any to confess a love for bunting, it makes everywhere look much more colourful and its also pretty fun to take photos of.These were taken the week of the Queen’s Jubilee and Knaresborough was the perfect place to see so much bunting, it’s such a quiant place already that the bunting looked like it had always been there.

Forgotten Photos: Manchester…

Photo12_12Photo15_15 Photo14_14Photo25_25

Last year I went to my first Lomo Meet Up in Manchester and tomorrow should be (snow depending, haha) another one…

So if anyone is in Manchester and wants to meet and talk cameras, I believe we’re meeting at the new Lomography shop at 11.30am. Perhaps I’ll see you there…

Have a good weekend!!

Starting all over again…

Sometimes I wonder why I keep getting new cameras – with each one, I feel like I take a massive step backwards as I have to relearn each camera – it’s quirks, its manual settings and well, everything about it and then apply all that I’ve learnt into taking the photos that I want to take.
And my refurbished LC-A is proving to have a very steep learning curve… but here are some of the better results from Roll 2 – I think the one of me is probably the best and I didn’t even take it, haha.

{theres that camera again, love it}

The first two photos are from the Lomography Xmas meet up and the rest were taken in Minehead.

The great thing about testing this camera is that as it has a light meter, I can try photos inside and also when its a bit grim or dark outside – the chandelier and the carousel in particular, I never would have taken with my other cameras, as I know their restrictions… but this camera has amazing potential for variety which I’m really looking forward to exploring more.

Paris in film: Xpro Chrome

I know I say that I love things a lot, but that is because I genuinely do… and I love this film
(and this camera). In fact, it sometimes makes choosing which camera and film to use quite difficult to do… but I don’t mind really.
Can you believe that I’m still uploading Paris photos? I guess I can, I did take a lot and 5 posts a week doesn’t seem that many when there is so much to share… these photos are some of my favourites from the week. My superheadz slim and wide has relatively no pressure, you don’t have to worry about focusing or the bulb setting, it takes no time to take a photo and sometimes, that is what I want and need and I love that.

I’m so glad that I tried the Lomography xpro chrome film in this camera – I expected it to look great and I wasn’t let down. The colours and contrasts are so rich, especially in the Paris sunshine…

I sure do miss the Paris sunshine.

Let’s kick the August Break off with something exciting…

Crossprocessed film! I’ve always wanted to try it – but I was honestly a bit scared, it seemed so advanced for me but then I used some Lomography slide film in my borrowed LC-A in Manchester and I was sold - the colours, the contrasts, the extremes… I love it!Photo30_30Photo25_25Photo24_24
{note- I have no idea who they are, I just thought it looked good}

Photo20_20Photo04_4Photo23_23

I’m in love with the colours and I couldn’t be more happier with these photos taken at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park last month. I’ve also really enjoyed taking my holga out more this year too. We’ve missed each other.

More Manchester LCA photos…

The more I look at these photos, the sadder I get that the LC-A I used was just a loaner camera and that I had to give it back…I wasn’t sure what I was expecting from this camera but when I first saw the photos I was a little underwhelmed by them: it’s easy to get caught up in the hype of something and I wonder if perhaps I was expecting a little too much from it.

Photo06_6Photo10_10Photo16_16Photo13_13Photo18_18Photo17_17Photo26_26Photo07_7

However looking at the photos again, more and more details start to pop out that I wouldn’t expect to see from my other Lomography cameras and I’m still so impressed by the colours, the contrast balance and delicacy it has with its multiple exposures.

The LC-A has an understated excellence to it and I can imagine with more use I would learn more about its individual charms and I can start to see why people love this camera so much. This camera is definitely going on my christmas list! (and I’m pretty sure it will be worth the rather hefty price tag too).

You can see the entire film of photos here.

My Lomo Roadshow Photos Part 1

First, I need to get this out of my system.

Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.

There are LC-A photos on my blog. LC-A baby!

Ok, I’m done, but seriously… LC-A. Finally.

I’m going to have to get me one of those one day…

Everything about it was pretty amazing – it sounded great, it was so sturdy yet compact and I really enjoyed using it. I’m also really happy with how the photos turned out.

and I love the they are taking photos too!}

At first, I found it quite intimidating taking photos in a large group especially as I was using a camera and film I hadn’t used before, so I took it as an opportunity to take photos differently from how I usually do too. I focused on the people around me, watching them take photos and taking photos of them, I don’t usually do that.

Photo23_23Photo29_29Photo37_37Photo34_34Photo40_40Photo38_38

Everytime I try a new film at the moment I seem to be completely overwhelmed by them and the Lomography Xpro Chrome is no exception, I can’t get over the richness of the tones and the beautiful contrast, I didn’t even tweak any of these photos. I can’t wait to use it more.
