These are actually a mixture of photos from Whitby, Robin’s Hood Bay and Staithes but I like them together and saying Whitby is just easier. I’m sure you’ll forgive me.

I was a little distressed when I realised that this was my last Lomo Redscale XR film and they haven’t had it on the Lomography website for a while… (don’t panic yet?) so I was conservative with this film.

I kind of wish that I hadn’t been though – I’ve never been that precious with film before and I think that in worrying about ruining it or wasting the film, I forgot to just enjoy it as much as I usually do. Luckily I did enjoy it enough to get some pretty photos though. The last one is my favourite.

Betty’s, Ilkley.

It’s no secret we love afternoon tea, and we especially love Betty’s as a treat… we took Adele to the one in York, we took my grandparents to the one at Harlow Carr in Harrogate last year and last month we took our Mum’s to the Betty’s in Ilkley and it was delicious!

Around Wells House

The buildings in Ilkley were some of my favourites that I’ve seen, which is why I took so many photos of them, they capture Yorkshire so well I think, especially the darker brick.

Photo14_11Photo16_13

Wells House (above) was designed by Cuthbert Broderick, the man responsible from three of the most iconic buildings in Leeds, The Town Hall, The Corn Exchange and also the Leeds Museum building (which I need to photograph), so it was fun to see another building by the same architect outside of Leeds.

Photo17_14Photo19_16Photo20_17

Wells House is now residential and I couldn’t help but admire the surrounding buildings as well and how they compared to the more dramatic architecture.

I love Yorkshire…

One of my favourite things about living in Yorkshire is that there is always somewhere new to visit. The same probably applies to everywhere really, but Yorkshire has really captured my heart as a place to live… Last month we took my Mum and Thomas’s Mum on a day trip to Ilkley and it was great, I didn’t expect to get many pictures if I’m honest and I took a whole roll of film! Unexpected photography days are my favourite!

Shades of turquoise…

Remember my confession of love for this Agfa film yesterday… well here are more reasons why I really love that turquoise shift and also, another confession of love for my Superheadz camera… I knew it could produce beautiful vignetting, but this film has taken that aspect and really made it special.Compared to yesterday’s photos, for some reason these doubles only seem to show hints of Davide‘s exposure and my photos of Wells and Harry (who I’m seeing Sunday, woo) are really prominent but I love the subtleness of layering this produces.

One of my favourite things about film is that there are so many options before you even take photos, its easy to stick with camera/film combinations but these photos remind me that I need to try as many different films as I can.

Have a great weekend!

We’re actually going home and to Wells again this weekend, so these photos are pretty fitting.

Lomo lovers film swap… the first set

Over the past couple of months I’ve been taking photos as part of the Lomo Lovers film swap.
(which reminds me, I need to do mine again soon right?)

I was partnered with Davideand these photos are from the roll of Agfa CT Precisa 100 (which I cross processed) that Davide originally took in Italy(!) with his LC-A+ and then I doubled with my Superheadz Wide and Slim. What do you think of our results?

Even though some of the shots aren’t lined up I still really like them. I was a bit dubious of green shades with cross processing after using the Lomography Xpro, but this Agfa film has a more turquoise shift rather than green and I love the shades of yellow it produces. I think I definitely need to buy some more of this film soon.

You can see the whole roll of photos here and also check out the film swap Flickr group here too.

Ah Paris…

Just this week, Diana, Amanda and Morgan and Kim have all shared film photos from Paris… and its been great to see them and remeber, I miss it so much! So I thought I’d share a few more photos that I haven’t on here, it’s been a while and I want some colour and sunshine.
(Anyone else feeling remarkably uninspired by the dreary weather, where is Spring?!)

The Vivitar Ghost…

Photo23_23

I’ve blogged before about the unexpected surprises that I’ve had from my Superheadz Slim and Wide… and now I know that this occurance has a name… the ‘Vivitar Ghost!’ isn’t that cool!(Thanks Adam)

I think I’ve finally figured out what causes this as well… the wrist strap!

Though of course not directly, but without the wrist strap, I wouldn’t carry this camera around the way that I do, it wouldn’t swing around all the time whilst I’m carrying it and that wouldn’t move the shutter just a little bit to expose the film with streaks…
It makes sense when you think about it.

The above photo was an experiment to see if swinging it around would actually cause this to happen and if anything I think the experiement went too well as I’ve managed to overexpose the frame rather than streak it… oops. But still, it’s so exciting!

I think I’m going to have to experiment further and see what happens…

I love film!!!

Canal details…

Yesterday I dropped off 6 films to be developed and I am EXCITED, so I thought now would be the best time to round off the photos from our little walk along the canal with my little yellow superheadz camera. I’m still amazed by how this Ilford film is capturing my analogue heart… I need more already!

Photo28_28Photo24_24Photo36_36 Photo37_37Photo35_35 Photo16_16Photo14_14Photo22_22

Also, just a quick note to say thank you to everyone who left my Mum a birthday comment, I loved reading them. I actually have no idea if she’s seen them yet though lol, I’ll get on that.

I love photos of Horses…

{I was a little sad about this one, as it looked so thin… but I didn’t want to ignore it, it seemed worse somehow}

Photo32_32Photo33_33

We saw quite a lot of horses on our walk along the canal and I couldn’t help but take photos of them.
I was really happy with the reflection in the last photo… especially as it didn’t start drinking until we were stood right in front of it.

I’m quite taken with the gritty quality of these photos… After trying the black and white film with the La Sardina and my refurbished LC-A, I was very very excited about using this film with my Superheadz Yellow Peace. I’m not really sure why I haven’t used it in it before…

After much thought, I’ve decided that this film is amazing. No matter what camera I’ve used it in, its produced lovely results. I still adore it in my Diana Mini but I couldn’t be happier with the results in other cameras too.

Paris in film: Lomo Xpro

The last time I blogged about Paris I gushed about the Lomography X-pro Chrome film because when I love something… I really love it. But when I don’t… I really don’t.
And I do not like this Lomography X-pro film (not to be confused with the X-pro Chrome). In fact I’m incredibly frustrated as I really do love the composition, angle and content of these photos, yet the choice of film has really spoilt them for me. It’s taken me this long to upload them onto Flickr and on here just because of the disappointment. What do you think?
Photo24_24Photo30_30Photo28_28Photo34_34Photo29_29Photo25_25
I love the cross processed distortion with the sunset photos because the colours were rich and gorgeous, and as with the chrome, the blues and turquoises are lovely, yet the overall green/yellow tone in these seems sickly and insipid in comparison to me. I really want to like them… but I just can’t seem too.

On another note, these photos were taken at the Le Grande Arch de la Defence, which is outside the main city of Paris in the business district and it was a massive culture shock for us after spending the week in the city. It felt like we had travelled to the future haha.

Paris in film: Xpro Chrome

I know I say that I love things a lot, but that is because I genuinely do… and I love this film
(and this camera). In fact, it sometimes makes choosing which camera and film to use quite difficult to do… but I don’t mind really.
Can you believe that I’m still uploading Paris photos? I guess I can, I did take a lot and 5 posts a week doesn’t seem that many when there is so much to share… these photos are some of my favourites from the week. My superheadz slim and wide has relatively no pressure, you don’t have to worry about focusing or the bulb setting, it takes no time to take a photo and sometimes, that is what I want and need and I love that.

Photo40_40Photo33_33Photo25_25Photo21_21Photo22_22 Photo18_18Photo20_20Photo30_30Photo12_12Photo38_38

I’m so glad that I tried the Lomography xpro chrome film in this camera – I expected it to look great and I wasn’t let down. The colours and contrasts are so rich, especially in the Paris sunshine…

I sure do miss the Paris sunshine.

A little catch up…

Photo09_5A

Last week was crazy busy… this morning was crazy busy.

In fact I’ve only just relaxed and finally had time to pull a blog post together.
I have so much to catch up on, argh!
I spent Saturday morning trying to relax and looking through Flickr and catching up with Photo Meditations.
and I am hooked.
So far I am loving this course, I even created a gallery of my favourite inspirations at the moment on Flickr. I’ve never used Flickr like that before, so it was very fun to do and so amazing to see photos that I really loved.
I just want to go out with my camera now… shame it’s getting dark already.
p.s. this post is a bit messy but I just wanted to get something out there,
I have no idea what else to say haha. Hi?

p.p.s. I’ve fallen in love with this photo again, I remember thinking the sky was pretty when I took it against the silhouette of the person but I actually love the dramatic lines at the bottom of the photo now too.

Paris in Film: Lomo Redscale XR

Once again I used my Lomography Redscale XR film in my superheadz camera – I love finding combinations that really work together and I was very excited about taking these two to Paris with me.My favourite thing about this film is the variety of the results and how it is a true reflection of the light around you. It varies between soft and warm when there isn’t as much light to bright and vivid when the sun is gleaming around you. As you can see, the weather on the days I used this film greatly improved, so the contrasts became much stronger.

A Paris sunset in X-Pro

After experimenting happily with Lomography’s X-Pro Chrome film (see here for blog posts), I decided to order some of the Lomography X-Pro film to take to Paris as well (I mentioned it briefly here)

I was still undecided with this film at first, it is very green, and generally I’m not a massive fan of green. However, these photos of the sunset completely changed my mind, pretty much because, the sunset looked nothing like these photos! Haha.

Photo04_4Photo05_5Photo06_6Photo07_7Photo11_11

I knew that cross processing films (developing slide film with c-41 chemicals and vice versa) could create a massive colour shift in the results, but the X-Pro Chrome results are very subtle and these results are not subtle at all in comparison. I’m still amazed by how different that the colours are and also that I could never have predicted that this is how they would have turned out.

I’m so glad that I’ve started to experiment with different films in my cameras, it adds a new level and challenge to my photography and I’m really enjoying the results.

Hurray It’s Friday!

{More Harry Love Lomowall made on Lomography}

I’m so happy it’s Friday because

~ tomorrow I get to wear a dress ~
(I actually have 3 to choose from,
I think blogging may have influenced me with dresses
it’s only taken 2 years…)

~ I get to spend time with two of my bestest friends and their other halfs ~
~ I get to eat bbq and cake ~
~ and watch other people on a trampoline ~

Eep, I can’t wait.

Happy weekend everyone!

p.s. Photos of Harry because I miss his little face and I love his little sticking out leg… is it weird to have a favourite leg on a pet? Probably…

More unexpected surprises…

Knaresborough Redscale Part 1

One of our favourite things about living in Leeds is that it is so close to so many other amazing places and they are so easy to get to. Whilst our Dad’s spent the day at the cricket (also close to our house) we took our Mum’s and Harry on the train to Knaresborough - a little market town just a few stops away.

I love Knaresborough, it is easily one of the prettiest places that I have ever been too, we visited last year but this time it was so much more fun with our family and cameras!

Photo02_1654APhoto03_1655APhoto04_1656APhoto05_1657APhoto07_1659APhoto08_1660APhoto09_1661A
As well as being a lovely market town Knaresborough also has ruins of a Castle where you had the most amazing view along River Nidd (hehe) to the beautiful viaduct. It was so easy to stand there and just absorb everything…

The last Manchester Lomoroadshow photos…

Photo19_15Photo20_16Photo21_17Photo23_19Photo24_20Photo27_23Photo26_22Photo28_24

As well as using the borrowed LC-A, I also took my little superheadz camera with me to Manchester (the camera wasn’t Lomo but the film was, so its fine…) I am still loving the combination of camera and film together and I think it’s caught the different atmosphere that Manchester (north, gritty) has compared to Minehead (south, not so gritty – simply put lol) very well.

Happy weekend!

More horse photos…

Remember these diana mini photos of horses? And perhaps these instax mini ones?

Well, I took 3 cameras with me that day, so here are the superheadz yellow peace ones too.

How amazing is that face with a wide angle lens? I love it.
I think horses are my new favourite photography subject.

I thanked them afterwards.

More Bolton Abbey…

The weekend wasn’t my first visit to Bolton Abbey this year, last month one of my friends got married close to Bolton Abbey and on the following day a few of us went for a walk.

Photo19_15APhoto23_19APhoto21_17APhoto20_16APhoto22_18APhoto26_22APhoto25_21A

It was a bit of a gloomy day in comparison to last weekend but I think the photos turned out really well for it – very atmospheric, a bit like I imagine Wuthering Heights to feel…

Tina left a comment yesterday about how lucky I am to be able to visit these places and she’s right. I love how close Kirkstall Abbey and Bolton Abbey are to where I live… especially when I get photos like these!

His and Mine, He and Her… something like that…

Now that we have a camera that Thomas enjoys using (the sony H7) we’ve been taking photos together… a bit like our little photography date.

At the end of January we went to Haworth - the home of the Bronte sisters – with our friends and we spotted a cat in the graveyard. So here are our two photos capturing the moment…
