For the Lomolovers doubles swap I was partnered with Davide and I really couldn’t be any more thrilled with the results. The second film was Kodak Elitechrome 100 (which Davide cross processed) that I orginally exposed with my La Sardina and sent to Davide in Italy(!) which he then put through his LC-A+.

Hurray for film swaps!!

Lomo lovers film swap… the second set. Part 2

Last month I posted the first of the second set of photos from my contribution to the Lomo Lovers film swap.

As I mentioned before, I was partnered with Davide. The second film was Kodak Elitechrome 100 (which Davide
cross processed) that I orginally exposed with my La Sardina and sent to Davide in Italy(!) which he then put through his LC-A+.

I was particularly excited about these photos from the set as I took my layer of the image in Bradford (on a fun curry night out with Lomo friends, you can see Adam’s action shot of me here lol) and I experimented with the bulb setting on my La Sardina camera at the Bradford City Park fountains.

Hurray for film swaps!!!

Lomo lovers film swap… the second set

A couple of weeks ago I posted some photos from the first film that got developed as part of my contribution to the Lomo Lovers film swap.
As I mentioned before, I was partnered with Davide and yesterday he shared the photos from the second roll of film. The film this time was Kodak Elitechrome 100 (which Davide
cross processed) that I orginally exposed with my La Sardina and sent to Davide in Italy(!) which he then put through his LC-A+.

These photos in particular I exposed at Kirkstall Abbey. I thought that at least one of the films I took should have some photos of there on it and I was really excited to see what Davide would expose over the top and I was not disappointed with the results. I particularly love the coffee sign!

Thank you so much to the Lomo Lovers – Nicola and Sam – for organising this swap…
and thank you, of course, to Davide too!
Hurray for film swaps!!!

Calm before the storm…

Though really, its more excitement than a bad storm…
On Friday my little sister is getting married, so I’m at home helping her sort things out and pestering the dog with my cameras, haha.
(There will be Harry photos on Instagram, woo)
I’m so excited!!!

I mentioned before that I was just trying to finish a film when I went to take these photos but now that I’m looking at them, I’m really glad I took so many photos of the daffodils, they never last long enough.

Have a great weekend!

p.s. My sister is getting married this time next week!!! I.am.excited!!!!!

Out of focus…

{Sometimes I get over excited about a photos potential and forget to let my Yashica Samurai focus properly, oops.}

Over the weekend I’ve been reading through the ‘Thing’s I’m afraid to tell you posts‘ and I’m feeling conflicted about it – in many ways, I’m so glad that people are being honest but at the same time I’m amazed that people really believe that other bloggers lifes are that perfect…
I don’t share my feelings often here, but it’s not because I’m afraid, or worried that you’ll judge me – I already judge myself too harshly and if I don’t share something here, its usually because I’m hiding it from myself rather than a larger audience. I know that I am my own worst enemy.

My photos today are technically bad – they are out of focus, you can’t make out what you are looking at and at first I was disappointed with them. But after looking at them again, I think that they are beautiful, they remind me to slow down, appreciate the moment, stop being so hard on myself to take the perfect photo and to just wait a few more seconds to let myself enjoy it, let the camera and light do its thing and then, when I’m ready, take the photo.

I think we all need this reminder sometimes – perfection, happiness, wealth and beauty are all relative – what works for me won’t work for you – and thats how blogging is too – read a blog because you love it but know (and remember) that behind every amazing photo there is always one (maybe more) that is out of focus too.

I originally started taking these photos to use up the end of a film, but once I started taking them I kept noticing more and more things. We used to live in one of the flats in the first photo, so I’m glad I took that photo, I always liked it, it was just what we needed at the time.

Have a great weekend!

Around the Barn…

I kind of wish I’d taken more photos of the barn with my film cameras, but I’m glad that I got a few – especially the one of the back garden area and also the barn from a distance. It really was a great destination!

Pink and blue…

After all the rain and dullness over the past two weeks (I guess the weather didn’t get my message about sunshine…) these photos make me so incredibly happy.

p.s. Thomas and I have a guest to entertain this weekend, we’re taking her to the beach.
It will more than likely rain but at least she’s getting a real English beach experience haha.

St Patrick’s Chapel, Heysham

Hello! Sorry for the blog silence, I’ve been sick.
I’m feeling much better now though and I finally developed my elusive film from February over the weekend too
so I finally have some colour photos to share, hurray!
(I’m not thrilled with the scans though, I’m going to take the negs to my usual place,
so these may be replaced when I do that…)

I’m so glad these photos turned out well, they are of St Patrick’s Chapel, Heysham – a ruined building which stands on the coastline of Heysham, next to the newer St Peter’s Church. It is a Grade I listed building and a Scheduled Ancient Monument believed to be dated from the 8th or 9th Century.

Just beneath the chapel was a peaceful little cove where we sat for a while taking it all in, I loved the colours of the shells and the sound of the waves.

I need some colour!

Photo39_39Photo40_40Photo19_19Snow on the beach!Photo23_23

Dear this weekend,
Please be sunny
I need to soak up some light
and take photos of pretty colours,
Thanks, I can’t wait for you to begin,
love Rhianne

p.s. these are some photos from Scarborough from my Exacta 135 (I was finishing the roll)
and from my LC-A before it died… sad times.

More snow…

Looking at yesterday’s photos with this camera, I don’t think they actually do it any justice… especially when you compare them with these photos in the snow on my way to work.
Photo19_19Photo20_20Photo21_21Photo22_22Photo24_24 Photo32_32Photo23_23Photo25_25Photo36_36

When I first looked at these results I wasn’t too thrilled with them, and to be fair there are a few stinkers in the roll (you can see the entire roll here), but the good photos are really good I think and perhaps I’ve underestimated this little cameras abilities.

I can’t wait to use this camera again when its sunny as I think the results then could be absolutely stunning!

12 for 2012 – Camera 2

As part of my ‘take more photos’ goal for this year – I decided that I wanted to use more of the cameras that I haven’t actually used before in my collection.
2. Exacta 135
February’s camera (this post is a little late… oops) is an Exacta 135 that I got from my friend Adam. I probably could have used it in better lighting conditions but it was February and it snowed. Overall I’m happy with the results and honestly, just glad that more photos came out than the first 12 for 2012 camera.

These photos were taken in Manchester as part of the Lomo meet up.

I still haven’t started my camera for March – how bad is that? I took so many photos last month that I haven’t really felt the need to take any in the last two weeks – I still have half a roll in my Yashica and Diana Mini to finish too. I’ve found it is best if I don’t force myself to take photos if I don’t fancy it though – I just end up taking bad photos and that’s worse than taking none…

I love photos of Horses…

{I was a little sad about this one, as it looked so thin… but I didn’t want to ignore it, it seemed worse somehow}

We saw quite a lot of horses on our walk along the canal and I couldn’t help but take photos of them.
I was really happy with the reflection in the last photo… especially as it didn’t start drinking until we were stood right in front of it.

Leeds Kirkgate Market…

Photo16_16 Photo17_17Photo18_18Photo19_19 Photo15_15

Considering that I’ve lived in Leed for 5 years now, I’ve never taken photos inside Leeds Kirkgate Market before… outside, yes, but never inside.

Sometimes though, you have to wait for the right moment, the right light, the right camera and definitely the right film and looking at these, I’m so glad I waited. The colour from this film really compliments the building interior and the LC-A really has a way with dramatic lighting and contrasts which I love (when its in focus… yeah).

Also, this weekend is my first 3 day weekend of February (it’s an exciting month!) and I am off taking more photos, hurray!! I hope you all have a great weekend!

As close to perfect winter light as you can get…

Photo07_7Photo06_6Photo09_9Photo08_8Photo10_10Photo12_12Photo13_13

Oh boy I am excited about these photos… it’s well known that the LC-A (refurbished and the plus) works incredibly well with cross processed film and I decided to try a new slide film with my LC-A – Kodak Elite Chrome 100. I’ve never tried it before and I’m really glad that I love the results, it’s not as blue as the Lomography Xpro Chrome and the greens are much more pleasing than the Lomography Xpro. It seems warmer than both the Lomography films though and the contrasts are just stunning I think.

I also experimented a little with the aperture and depth of field with these and I think that may be worth while when using the focus with this particular refurbished LC-A as it seems a little fuzzier than I would prefer at close range… I’m really hoping that I can learn this little cameras quirks as when it works well, I love the results.

p.s. does anyone with a refurbished LC-A have any tips for close up photos being in focus?
